FREE ADDITIONAL BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE

The offer is available to students starting their international journey from India and travelling on a valid student/student exchange visa (F1/J1/I20/DS2019 etc.) between 01Jan2010 to 31Dec2010. To USA and Canada, in addition to the regular baggage allowance, 1 free piece of baggage is permitted, with a maximum weight of 23kgs and the sum of the linear dimensions 62 inches, which is valid to all interior points.

To the following destinations, in addition to the regular baggage allowance, 10kgs free baggage is permitted:

* To London, Frankfurt and Paris.
* To UK and Europe interior points via London on British Midland Airways.
* To Singapore, Bangkok, Hongkong, Dubai, Osaka, Tokyo, Shanghai (on all AI/IC operated flights only; not valid on code share flights with other carriers.)
* To Australia (valid routing: India-AI/IC SIN/BKK/HKG-QF-Australia)

Excess Baggage Ticket (EBT) will be issued for students travelling to USA or Canada interior points and to European interior points via Frankfurt or Paris.

Free additional baggage allowance will be valid for the outbound journey only. The offer applies only to traffic originating in India (ticketing anywhere) and not for returning traffic.

Free additional baggage allowance will also be valid on the Indian domestic leg of the international journey on AI/IC operated flights.

This offer may be availed by genuine students any number of times during the offer period and is not restricted to first-time travel.

There is no age limit for availing of this offer.

In addition to the above, the first date change can be made free without any rebooking penalty.

Cancellation charges can be waived only if proof of Visa rejection is provided.

This offer is not valid on code share flights with other carriers.

Jet Air welcomes ex-employees back on board; 200 accept offer

In what signals a revival of the domestic airline sector, the country’s largest private carrier Jet Airways has asked hundreds of its former employees to re-join the carrier. Nearly 200 cabin staff who had left the company during the slowdown in the industry have already accepted the airline’s offer. Jet Airways is seeking to expand its fleet as well as its network. “We have contacted 400 people (who left the company since October 2008) and out of them, nearly 200 have re-joined us,” Jet Airways chief commercial officer Sudheer Raghavan told FE. The total staff strength of Jet Airways has come down from 13,500 in October 2008 to 11,500 in June 2010. About 2,000 ground and cabin staff had earlier put in their papers citing lack of advancement in their careers. The airline had resorted to fleet reduction and route rationalisation amid slackening demand for air travel. Jet Airways had, in October 2008, handed out pink slips to nearly 1,900 staff, but had taken back all of them within two days after an agitation by the sacked employees and pressure from trade unions and the Shiv Sena, the Maharashtra-centered political outfit. Most domestic airlines have now resumed hiring as they start expanding their operations to cater to the growing demand. Local air traffic has registered double-digit growth since June 2009 owing to the strong economy and an improved market sentiment.
