Ahmedabad is the leading commercial city of Gujarat, the premier industrial and one of the fastest growing states of India. It is the home of the textile industry of Gujarat. All kinds of businesses involving private entrepreneurship  flourish here. It is known for its beautiful Jain temples, intricately carved mosques and one of the best textile museums in the world.
 
The best time to visit Ahmadabad is during winter (Nov-Jan) as the summers are very hot and the monsoons could be quite harsh.

The ashram is open from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm (7 pm between April and September). Admission is free. There is a sound-and-light show for a small charge at 6:30 pm (in Gujarati) and 8:30 pm (in English on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday) and in Hindi on the other nights.
 

Jama Masjid

Built in yellow sandstone, the structure has 260 pillars supporting 15 domes of varying heights. The Jama Masjid reflects the Islamic style of architecture
 

Hathee Singh's Temple

This is the best known of Ahmedabad's many ornate Jain Temples. Built of pure white marble and decorated with rich carvings, the Hathee Singh Temple is dedicated to Dharamanath - the fifteenth Jina or Jain apostle
 

Calico Textile Museum

Ahmadabad houses one of the finest textile museums in the world
Located in the Sarabhai Foundation in Shahibagh, it has the finest collection of  textiles,clothes, furniture, temple artifacts and crafts in the country. It has the finest fabrics spun, woven, printed and painted in different parts of India.
 

The Shaking Minarets

The minarets of the Mosque of Siddi Bashir  also referred to as  the Jhulta Minara  remain a mystery till today.  The specialty of the minarets is that they can move back and forth  if one gives a slight push to the topmost arches of the minarets.
 

The Kankaria Lake

The Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad is one of the finest lakes in the city. This artificial lake with an island summer palace, has  34 sides, each 60m long. There's a huge zoo and children's park by the lake, and the Ghattamendal pavilion in the center houses an aquarium.
