National carrier Air India will operate additional flights to augment capacity to popular holiday destinations - Port Blair and Goa, thus ensuring that tourists from various States of India and all over the world, are not disappointed for want of seats on a flight. With scheduled flights of all airlines being booked during this peak season, Air India has stepped in by deploying additional capacity.
Flights to Port Blair
From December 23, 2009 to January 10, 2010, a total of 19 additional flights will operate from Chennai to Port Blair. The daily flight, IC 1549 which will be in addition to the daily scheduled flight IC 549/550, will depart Chennai at 0700 hours and reach Port Blair at 0905 hours. In the return direction, the flight IC 1550 will depart Port Blair at 0945 hours and arrive in Chennai at 1150 hours.
Air India will also operate an extra flight on the Kolkata-Port Blair-Kolkata sector on two days -- December 24 and 29, 2009 to meet heavy passenger rush. The flight, in addition to the scheduled flight IC 287/288 on this sector, will take off from Kolkata at 0600 hrs and reach Port Blair at 0800 hrs. The return flight will take off at 0840 hrs from Port Blair to arrive in Kolkata at 1040 hrs. Besides these, Air India will also operate three charter flights on this sector, on January 4, 7 and 10, with an Airbus A320 aircraft.
Flights to Goa
Air India has also planned to operate an additional frequency on the Delhi-Goa-Delhi route from December 23, 2009 to January 7, 2010 to meet increased demand for seats to Goa for Christmas and New Year. The additional flight will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, leaving Delhi at 1430 hours and reaching Goa at 1700 hours. The return flight from Goa will leave at 1740 hours and reach Delhi at 2025 hours.
The additional flights to both Port Blair and Goa will be operated with the 122-seater A319 aircraft.
Flights to North-East
Air India, which serves as the lifeline to the North-East, will also operate additional flights from Kolkata to Aizawl on December 19, 2009 and to Dimapur on December 20 and 23, 2009 to meet increased demand.
